Palakkad: A young man who was beaten by a mob for trying to steal a bike died. The deceased has been identified as Rafeeq (27), son of Musthafa of Kanniyankad, Malampuzha, Kadukkamkunnam. Three people were taken into custody by North police.
The incident took place at 1.45 am today at Olavakkode junction. Police said Rafiq was beaten by a group of people who allegedly tried to steal a bike parked in front of the shop. Rafiq collapsed and died. After the incident, the group who tried to escape was stopped by the locals.
The police took them into custody. The body is in the District Hospital Mortuary. Police suspect there are more suspects. Police are examining CCTV footage of various places in Olavakkotte.
