KNOXVILLE, June 18, 2025 – The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team is facing a roster overhaul as several players have entered the transfer portal following the 2025 season, impacting the team’s pitching staff significantly.

Junior Andrew Behnke, Austin Breedlove, and freshman Beau Revord are among those seeking new opportunities.

  • Three pitchers, including a key reliever, have transferred.
  • The team is rebuilding its roster through the transfer portal.
  • Five new players are committed to join the Vols.

Several pitchers from the 2025 roster, including Dylan Loy, are leaving, which is forcing the Vols to rebuild. The departures are a sign of the ever-changing landscape of college baseball.

Pitching Staff Shakeup

Behnke, a left-handed reliever in the 2024 season, saw his role diminish in 2025. He finished with a 5.11 ERA in 12⅓ innings across 14 appearances, a drop from his 3.52 ERA in 43 appearances over three seasons. Breedlove pitched 23⅔ innings in 25 games with two starts, and had a 3.42 ERA. Revord, hailing from Jefferson City, Tennessee, did not pitch during his freshman year.

Portal Entries

In total, 12 players from the 2025 roster have entered the transfer portal. Along with the pitchers already mentioned, the list includes Dylan Loy, Thomas Crabtree, Brayden Sharp, Bryson Thacker, Austin Hunley, and Ryler Smart. Outfielder Colby Backus and infielders Jack Jones and Robinson Martin have also entered.

Loy, a former star from Pigeon Forge, is the only player to enter the portal with a substantial role. He finished 6-0 with a 3.22 ERA in two seasons. He struck out 73 in 64⅓ innings in 54 appearances with six starts. As a sophomore, the left-handed pitcher led the SEC with 33 appearances.

New Recruits

The Volunteers are also working to fill the gaps left by the departures. They have secured commitments from five players through the portal. These include ETSU pitcher Brady Frederick, Bo Rhudy of Kennesaw State, Clay Edmondson of UNC Asheville, and Mason Estrada of MIT. Edmondson and Estrada are considered draft risks and are eligible for the 2025 MLB Draft. Garrett Wright, a catcher and outfielder from Bowling Green, has also committed.
