Elon Musk Launches New ‘America Party,’ Escalating Rift with Donald Trump
A new political force has entered the American landscape, born from a fractured relationship between tech mogul Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump. Following an online poll indicating significant public desire for a third party, Musk announced the formation of the “America Party” on his social media platform, X, signaling a dramatic shift in his political engagement.
Musk’s move comes after a period of escalating tension with Trump, particularly surrounding the recently approved ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ – a 940-page budget package. The billionaire has vocally criticized the bill, arguing it risks bankrupting the United States, and even threatened political consequences for those who supported it.
From Ally to Adversary: The Breakdown of a ‘Bromance’
The public fallout marks a stark contrast to the previous relationship between Musk and Trump. For nearly a year, the two enjoyed a close alliance, with Musk reportedly contributing “millions of dollars” to support Trump’s initial run for the White House. However, that dynamic began to unravel in June, as disagreements surfaced, culminating in Musk’s current opposition.
“You will lose the elections, even if it were the last thing I will do,” Musk reportedly assured those in Congress who voted in favor of the budget. Trump dismissed the criticism, stating, “He is angry for subsidies to electric cars,” and even threatened to deport Musk.
Polling Data Fuels Third-Party Bid
The decision to launch the America Party was directly informed by a survey conducted by Musk on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Independence Day. The poll asked Americans if they wanted an “independence” from the two-party system. According to Musk, 65% of respondents answered yes, while 35% did not.
“With a ratio of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you will have it,” Musk declared on X. “When it comes to bankruptcy our country with waste and corruption, we live in a single-level system, not in a democracy. Today, the America Party was born to return freedom.”
A Party Aimed at Disenfranchised Voters
Musk envisions the America Party as a vehicle for voters disillusioned with the current political establishment. He believes the party can attract both Republicans and Democrats “looking for something new that protects them.” The success of this venture remains to be seen, but the launch undeniably injects a new level of uncertainty into the American political landscape.
The former ally-turned-opponent’s move signals a potential realignment of power and a challenge to the traditional two-party system, leaving observers to question the future of American politics.
