A passenger was hospitalized after a bottle shattered a bus window.

Imagine commuting on the bus, the city lights blurring past, and suddenly, glass explodes inward. **What happens when a bottle is thrown at a bus window?** In Singapore, a passenger on SMRT service 190 experienced just that, suffering injuries after a bottle shattered a window.

The incident occurred on July 5, at approximately 6:45 p.m. Mr. Vincent Gay, deputy managing director of SMRT Buses, stated that the bottle was thrown at the double-decker bus as it traveled along Orchard Road.

The police were alerted to the incident in Orchard Road at about 6.50pm on July 5, and investigations are ongoing.

Emergency response and passenger care

The bus driver immediately stopped the vehicle to assist passengers. All passengers were then transferred to another bus to continue their commute.

Police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were notified at approximately 6:50 p.m. The injured passenger, a 57-year-old woman, was taken to Raffles Hospital while conscious.

Ongoing investigation

“We are cooperating with the police in their investigations,” said Mr. Gay. The police are actively investigating the incident that occurred at Orchard Road.

Photos circulating online show the bus parked near The Heeren. Social media images show a gaping hole and cracks in the upper deck window.

Blood stains were also visible near the bus door.
