Senegal Braces for Overnight Thunderstorms in Southeast Regions

A weather alert issued Sunday, July 6, 2025, warns of impending thunderstorms across several regions in southeastern Senegal during the night of July 6-7. The alert, published by Riad Météo on its Facebook page, indicates that the Kédougou region will be the first to experience the severe weather, with conditions expected to spread southward.

According to the alert, the initial thunderstorms are anticipated to develop in the Kédougou region. From there, the stormy weather is forecast to move into southern Tambacounda, and subsequently the Kolda region. The Ziguinchor area is also under a warning for similar conditions, though the storms there are expected to be more localized.

“The first thunderstorms are expected in the Kédougou region,” a statement from Riad Météo confirmed.

Calm Conditions Expected Elsewhere

While the southeastern regions prepare for potential disruption, the remainder of Senegal, including the Dakar region, is expected to remain relatively calm overnight. The weather service indicated that these areas will likely experience a generally peaceful night, offering a stark contrast to the conditions anticipated further east.

This regional disparity in weather patterns highlights the complex meteorological dynamics at play in Senegal during this period. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects and avoiding travel during the peak of the storms. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
