Djordje Petrovic Leaves Chelsea for Bournemouth in £25 Million Deal
Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has transferred from Chelsea to Bournemouth for £25 million.
Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has departed Chelsea for Bournemouth for £25 million. The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Strasbourg in France. He kept 13 clean sheets in 31 appearances there, helping the team finish seventh and secure a spot in this season’s UEFA Conference League. Petrovic fell out of favor with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
- Djordje Petrovic has moved from Chelsea to Bournemouth for £25 million.
- He signed a five-year contract with Bournemouth, running until June 2030.
- Petrovic was previously on loan at Strasbourg, keeping 13 clean sheets in 31 games.
- Kepa Arrizabalaga, his former Chelsea teammate, recently joined Arsenal for £5 million.
- Petrovic’s move to Bournemouth aims to provide him with more playing time and development.
Petrovic’s departure from Chelsea comes after a strong debut season in 2023-24 under Mauricio Pochettino. During that campaign, he unseated fellow summer signing Robert Sanchez to become the first-choice goalkeeper midway through the season. However, he is no longer considered part of Chelsea’s long-term plans. This was underscored when he was excluded from their title-winning Club World Cup squad this summer.
Bournemouth saw an opportunity and secured his signing after a £25 million offer was accepted by Chelsea. Petrovic’s move to Bournemouth means he will replace his former Chelsea teammate, Kepa Arrizabalaga. Arrizabalaga spent last season on loan with Bournemouth but has since joined Arsenal this month in a £5 million deal.
Petrovic expressed his enthusiasm for the move. “I’m really happy to be here,” he stated. “I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”
Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, shared his delight. He called Petrovic’s transfer a “really pleased” completion. Pinto noted the “opportunity to sign a player of his calibre in the market was one we had to take, particularly given how vital the position of a goalkeeper is.”
Petrovic began his senior career at Cukaricki, making 86 appearances between 2019 and 2022. He then spent 16 months in the United States’ MLS with New England Revolution, where he recorded 14 clean sheets. During his time at Chelsea, following his late August 2023 move, he started the 23-24 Carabao Cup final. Chelsea ultimately finished as runners-up to Liverpool in that competition.
Internationally, Petrovic represents Serbia. He has earned seven caps for his country since his debut in January 2021, in a goalless draw against the Dominican Republic.
