BRAINE-LE-COMTE, Belgium – Maxime Daye, deputy-bourgmestre of Braine-le-Comte, was charged in early July with inciting debauchery and sending pornographic videos to a minor. The Mons prosecutor’s office announced the charges Tuesday.
The official was notified of the charges on July 11, 2025, by an investigating judge. Prosecutors stated that while the charge requires “guilt indices,” it also grants the individual specific rights within the ongoing investigation. The investigating judge currently sees no evidence to support further charges.
Daye remains presumed innocent at this stage of the proceedings. “The investigation continues,” the prosecutor’s office stated. “It is in everyone’s interest that it proceeds serenely, based on proven facts and free from all untimely rumors.”
The deputy-bourgmestre had previously spoken during a municipal council meeting on May 26, marking his first public statement since a judicial investigation into his conduct was opened in April. At that time, Daye indicated he would not step down from his duties, noting he had not yet been formally heard or charged.
