CPM Leader Demands Investigation into Mohanan’s Death, Accuses Muslim League of Disrespect
A CPM leader is calling for a thorough investigation into the death of a party activist, alleging that statements made by the Muslim League demonstrate disrespect for the deceased and an attempt to deflect responsibility. The call for investigation comes after years of suffering for the victim, and escalating tensions between the two political groups.
Kannur, Kerala – On August 16, 2025, KK Ragesh, a prominent figure within the Communist Party of India (Marxist), publicly demanded a probe into the death of Mohanan, a CPM activist who passed away after enduring 13 years of health complications stemming from a 2012 attack. Ragesh sharply criticized a statement issued by the Muslim League, deeming it “unfortunate” and accusing the party of attempting to minimize its role in the events that led to Mohanan’s prolonged suffering.
According to reports, the attack on Mohanan occurred on February 21, 2012, following the assassination of Shukkore. Ragesh stated that Mohanan remained bedridden for 13 years as a direct result of the injuries sustained during the assault. The Muslim League had previously demanded an investigation into Mohanan’s death, alleging inadequate treatment and seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding his passing.
“They demand an investigation, yet simultaneously attempt to diminish the severity of the attack and the suffering endured,” Ragesh stated. He further asserted that Mohanan was not a high-ranking official within the party, and that claims of CPM involvement in any assault against him were unfounded.
Ragesh accused Muslim League activists of inflicting brutal violence, stating that Mohanan’s skull was fractured during the attack. He called on the League to clarify its position and demanded the withdrawal of the controversial statement made by a district president.
Mohanan reportedly passed away at AKG Hospital and was subsequently buried at Matamangalam Mahl in Matamangalam at 10:00 AM.
The situation remains tense as both parties navigate the sensitive issue of Mohanan’s death and the accusations leveled against the Muslim League. The demand for a full and transparent investigation is expected to intensify in the coming days.
