Whitby Manslaughter Charge Follows Weekend Fatal Assault
A 28-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 24-year-old man in Whitby, Ontario, after a reported altercation this past weekend. The incident marks the sixth homicide in Durham Region for 2025.
A Durham Regional Police Service investigation revealed that officers responded to a call regarding a fight in a parking lot near the intersection of Colborne Street East and Green Street shortly before midnight on Saturday. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a male who had sustained injuries consistent with an assault.
The victim, identified as Thomas Holm, 24, of Whitby, was immediately transported to a trauma centre in the Toronto area. Despite receiving medical attention, Holm succumbed to his injuries.
Austin Hill, 28, of Ajax, was subsequently located at his residence and taken into custody without incident. He has been formally charged with manslaughter and was held pending a bail hearing.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to gathering all available information,” stated a police spokesperson.
