La Voix Reveals Queen Elizabeth II’s unexpected Dance Moves to Uptown Funk
A remarkable account from Strictly Come Dancing star La Voix details a surprisingly “normal” and joyful side of the late Queen Elizabeth II,who passed away in September 2022. The performer, known for her vibrant stage presence, shared a story about witnessing the Queen dance to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s hit, “Uptown Funk,” at a private New Year’s Eve celebration.
The anecdote, first reported by Wales Online, offers a rare glimpse behind the palace walls and challenges conventional perceptions of royal formality. La Voix, 45, recounted performing at a New Year’s Eve bash hosted for Prince William and Prince Harry at london’s Dorchester Hotel. She was struck by the down-to-earth demeanor of the royal brothers and, most memorably, the Queen’s unexpected enthusiasm on the dance floor.
“I’ve [performed] for the Royal Family for two years in a row,” La Voix shared. “I did their New Year’s Eve party at the Dorchester for two years in a row for Prince William and Harry – it was their party and it was amazing.”
Due to non-disclosure agreements, details remain limited, but La Voix emphasized the unique nature of the experience. “Obviously ther were loads of NDAs signed and things that I’m not allowed to talk about – I can’t give you too much – but I can say I’m one of the only people to have watched the Queen dance to Uptown Funk, Queen Liz,” she stated.
The television personality described the atmosphere as remarkably relaxed and familial. “She was amazing! The biggest experience I had from that was it was like watching a regular family have a party – it just felt so normal and so wonderful. I was really honoured to have been able to do that, it was amazing.” This intimate setting allowed for a display of personality rarely seen in public appearances by the Queen.
For La Voix, this royal engagement ranks among the highlights of her career, alongside her current participation in Strictly Come Dancing. “That was amazing, a bit like doing strictly. There are certain calls you get were you go, ‘Oh my god, that’s amazing’, and to get the call to do that for the royals was incredible. So yeah,[it was] definitely a highlight,” she explained.
Currently captivating audiences on the Strictly dance floor with her professional partner, Aljaž Škorjanec, La Voix has already performed a Jive and an American Smooth. This weekend, the pair will take on a Waltz, set to “Feed the birds” from Mary Poppins.

Beyond her Strictly commitments, La Voix is also preparing for a festive role as Dame Trott in Jack and the Beanstalk at Wycombe Swan Theater. “Everything I’ve wanted to do has all come at the same time – it’s wonderful, but it’s like, just keep calm and carry on,” she said, acknowledging her busy schedule.
This will be her first time performing in Jack and the Beanstalk, despite two decades of experience in pantomime productions of Aladdin, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast. “I’ve never done a Jack and the Beanstalk [show],” she noted. “I’m playing dame Trott,basically I’m a farmer. I don’t know how they’re going to make La Voix into a farmer, but I’m excited to bring glamour to the farming community!”
La Voix views her diverse range of projects as a vital source of entertainment during challenging times. “The world is a very unfunny place at the minute and I feel like people need glamour, laughter, and entertainment – and that’s what I aim to do. Pantomime is a great example.”
