The Allright Family Band Celebrates 50 Years of Music with Star-Studded Concert

A golden anniversary celebration is set to take center stage as the Allright Family Band marks 50 years of musical legacy with a one-night-only concert at the Neil S. Blaisdell Concert Hall on Friday, November 14. The event promises a vibrant showcase of talent, featuring not only the band itself but also a diverse lineup of guest performers from Hawaiʻi, Canada, and Las Vegas.
A Legacy Rooted in Family and Aloha
Founded in the late 1970s by Buck Rodgers, the Allright Family Band began as a close-knit musical endeavor featuring Buck and his wife, Marilyn Rodgers, alongside their daughter and three sons. Now, decades later, the band continues to thrive, with both Buck, 85, and Marilyn, 74, still actively involved. Marilyn Rodgers, who also serves as the band’s manager, expressed their ambition for the concert: “We want to fill the house.”
The upcoming show, with a capacity of approximately 2,000 seats, is a culmination of a long-held dream of Buck’s. According to Marilyn, “He kept on saying he wanted to do a big show to commemorate 50 years of the Allright Family Band,” and the planning unfolded from there.
Multi-Generational Talent Takes the Stage
The concert will be a true family affair, showcasing the musical evolution of the Rodgers’ children. Their son, Daniel, now a father and the owner of Wellness Haven Massage on Maui, will share songs he has written, including a poignant piece titled “No More Pain.” Another son, Jai, residing in Waikīkī, will perform with his band, Jai & The Tones.
The Rodgers’ sons have a rich history of musical collaboration, having previously performed as Buckz Boyz in middle school and Breath of Fire in high school – a name chosen, according to Marilyn, because “it had to be kind of risqué, right?” They later evolved into the Jai & Dan Duo, demonstrating a consistent dedication to music throughout their lives. Jai continues to perform regularly in Waikīkī, gracing stages at venues like Duke’s Waikīkī and the Tapa Bar at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
A Lineup of Hawaiian Music Icons
Beyond the Allright Family Band and its members’ individual projects, the concert boasts an impressive roster of guest artists. The lineup includes Ala Moana Boyz, Vynilyn, Natural Vibrations, Black Lysted, Simplisity, Bet, Damon Williams & The Hawaiian Style Band, and Kumu Catalina.
Rediscovering a Musical Past
The Allright Family Band’s musical journey extends back to 1987 with the release of their album, “Music is Love Maui.” This album featured early work from notable artists including a young Henry Kapono and the father of Bruno Mars, Peter Hernandez. Recently, Amal Wijayanyake, owner of Amalien Records, discovered the band’s music and has remastered their song “Music is Love,” set for release next week alongside a new track from Jai, “Simmer Down.”
Doors for the concert will open at 5 p.m., with the show beginning at 6 p.m. at the Neil S. Blaisdell Concert Hall.
