DNA testing has definitively confirmed that human remains discovered Saturday behind a vacant school in Philadelphia belong to Kada Scott, a woman who had been missing since early October. The confirmation, made Sunday, comes after a matching DNA sample was obtained from Scott’s parents, according to sources close to the investigation.
The grim revelation was made near Awbury Arboretum in Germantown, an area that had been the focal point of an intensive search operation just days prior, on Wednesday, October 9th. A “very specific” anonymous tip received overnight prompted authorities to return to the scene around 10 a.m. Saturday, leading to the recovery of the remains.
First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford stated that the remains were found in a shallow grave within a heavily wooded area and appeared to be those of a female.”We have been in interaction with her family as to this process and in the fact that we have recovered a human being,” Stanford said, emphasizing the department’s commitment to keeping Scott’s family informed.
Investigators have also recovered potential evidence linked to the case, including surveillance video from a nearby Recreation Center and physical evidence found during Wednesday’s search – Scott’s debit card and a phone case. Arrest and Charges Against Keon King
The investigation has centered on 21-year-old Keon King of Southwest Philadelphia,who was arrested and charged with kidnapping and related offenses in connection with Scott’s disappearance. King was identified as the last person known to have been in contact with Scott before she vanished on the night of Saturday, october 4th, after leaving her workplace at an assisted living facility in Chestnut Hill.
Police have reported a surge in tips following King’s arrest. while the exact nature of the relationship between King and Scott remains under investigation, authorities believe they had contact in the days leading up to her disappearance. He is also facing charges in a separate incident earlier this year involving the alleged kidnapping and strangulation of another woman, who survived the attack.
