Oilers End Losing Streak with Overtime Thriller, Celebrate Multiple Firsts
The Edmonton Oilers halted a three-game skid Tuesday evening, securing a 3-2 overtime victory over the Ottawa Senators and marking a night of significant milestones for several players. The win concluded a five-game road trip for Edmonton, fueled by firsts from captain Connor McDavid, rookie Isaac Howard, and veteran Jake Walman.
McDavid, Howard, and Walman All Find the Back of the Net
The Oilers drew first blood late in the opening period, capitalizing on a Senators penalty. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up Connor McDavid for a stunning top-corner snipe, marking McDavid’s first goal of the season. A video of the goal is available here.
The momentum continued into the second frame, as Isaac Howard etched his name into Oilers history with his first career NHL goal. Senators Mount a Comeback, Skinner Reaches Century Mark
Despite a 2-0 lead, the Senators refused to concede. They quickly cut the deficit to one just 13 seconds into the third period on a goal by Cozens, and then equalized less than two minutes later with Thomas Cahbot’s first goal of the season. A video of Cozens’ goal is available here.
However, the Oilers ultimately prevailed in overtime. With their power play winding down, a crucial faceoff win set up Jake Walman, who unleashed a blast that beat Linus Ullmark for the game-winning goal. Watch Walman’s overtime winner here.
A Night of Milestones and Strong Performances
Beyond the goals, Tuesday’s game was filled with noteworthy achievements. It was a night of firsts for the Oilers, with McDavid and Howard scoring their first goals of the season and career, respectively, and Walman playing and scoring in his first game of the season.
The evening also celebrated Adam Henrique’s 1,000th career game, a historic milestone as he becomes the first player in Oilers history to reach that mark while wearing an Oilers jersey. He delivered a solid performance, contributing to the team’s victory.
Rookie Matthew Savoie also impressed, earning an assist on Walman’s overtime goal after winning the critical faceoff. He demonstrated a strong all-around game, winning puck battles and effectively killing penalties.

The Oilers will enjoy a brief return to Edmonton before hosting the Montréal Canadiens on Thursday at 7:00 PM MT. They will then resume their road schedule following the home game.
