‘The Boys’ Spin-Off: Season 3 Status – Renewed or Canceled?

‘Gen V’ Season 3 & ‘Vought Rising’ Future Hang in the Balance, Creator Says

The fate of future installments of the hit Prime Video series Gen V, and the upcoming spin-off Vought Rising, rests squarely on viewership numbers, according to series creator Eric Kripke. The conclusion of Gen V’s second season, which navigated the tragic loss of actor Chance Perdomo in 2024, directly ties into the narrative arc of The Boys as it prepares for its fifth and final season.

The second season of Gen V concluded its eight-episode run, serving as a crucial bridge between the storylines of The Boys seasons four and five. Events in the Gen V finale will unfold six months before the premiere of The Boys’ final season next year. But the question on fans’ minds is whether Godolkin University’s super-powered students will return for a third installment.

The Viewership Factor

Kripke addressed the possibility of a Gen V season three with striking candor in a recent interview. “We have plans for a third season of Gen V which excites us, but we need enough people to see the second one to justify the next one,” he stated. This underscores the critical role that current viewership plays in Amazon’s decision-making process.

He urged viewers to stream the current season immediately, emphasizing the time sensitivity of the situation. “Now is the time when [platform executives] are paying attention to the numbers, so don’t take a year to see it. Go to Prime Video and watch it right now,” Kripke continued. “If enough people watch it, then we can do a third season.”

‘Vought Rising’ Also Dependent on Performance

The pressure isn’t limited to Gen V. The same viewership criteria apply to Vought Rising, the upcoming prequel series exploring the origins of Vought International and the development of Compound V. According to Kripke, plans for a second season of Vought Rising are contingent on the success of its initial run.

“We have plans for a second season, if we can do it,” he explained. Despite Amazon’s consistent support and willingness to provide opportunities, Kripke acknowledged the business realities at play. “But it is a business and we also have to comply, so we trust that the public will respond,” he concluded.

The future of this expanding superhero universe, therefore, is now in the hands of its audience.
