UNT Divers Shine, But Tulane Claims Dual-Meet Victory
despite strong individual performances, notably from its diving team, the University of North Texas (UNT) swimming and diving program fell to Tulane in a dual meet with a final score of 148.5-92.5.
diving Dominance Highlights Mean Green Effort
The UNT diving squad delivered a standout performance, led by Sydney Guidara, a junior who secured victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. Guidara’s winning score on the 3-meter was 301.20, surpassing teammate Kamryn Wong’s 274.80. Sophomore Amelia Sharp contributed to the team’s points tally with a fourth-place finish and a score of 242.93.
Guidara continued her notable form on the 1-meter,achieving a winning score of 301.95. Wong followed closely in second place with 282.00, and Sharp secured third with a score of 262.28.
“I’m super proud of this team,” a senior coach remarked. “They really stepped up and showed up. They were full of energy, and it truly was a group effort. We had a lot of great performances and progress forward, and I’m excited to keep building on that.”
Swimming Squad Shows promise in loss
While the divers excelled, the relatively young and inexperienced UNT swimming team also demonstrated potential. Sophomore Jette Schindler claimed victory in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:06.25. Freshman Maria Jose Sanchez Castro secured another win for the Mean Green in the 200 breaststroke, edging out the Tulane competitor by a mere one-hundredth of a second with a time of 2:21.75.
“We had some really good races today, and some high notes of team members who are honing in on their skill set this season,” the head coach stated. “Jette Schindler has been so steady and consistent in training, and she’s been taking risks and challenging herself in her 200 Fly work. It was great to see her implementing that work today and getting the team a win in that event. Hollie Smith and Maddie McAlister had great races today, too. I’ve been impressed with each of them in their racing and building from their experiences. I was impressed with Majo Sanchez Castro in the 200 Breast. She’s doing a great job and she brings such a joyful energy to the team. It’s fun to see her building her confidence in her racing.”
The Mean Green will continue their season on Saturday with a dual meet against another conference opponent at Rice University.
