UMBC Implements Clear Bag Policy for Expanded Athletic Events Starting in 2025-26

A new clear bag policy will be enforced at University of maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) athletic events beginning with the 2025-26 basketball season, expanding to include a wider range of sports. The policy aims to enhance safety and streamline entry procedures for fans attending games.
According to an official declaration, the updated policy dictates the types and sizes of bags permitted into UMBC venues. All bags are subject to search upon entry.
Permitted Bag Types and Sizes
Fans will have several options for carrying essential items. The approved bag types include:
- Clear Bags: Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags not exceeding 12″ x 6″ x 12″.
- One-Gallon Bags: One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags, such as Ziploc bags.
- Small Clutch Bags: Small clutch bags measuring 4.5″ x 6.5″, with or without a handle or strap.
- Diaper Bags: Diaper bags are permitted when accompanied by a child.
- Medical Bags: Accommodations will be made for individuals requiring medical bags containing exclusively medically necessary items, medical equipment, and lactation supplies.
Prohibited Items
A thorough list of prohibited bags has been released, including, but not limited to: purses, backpacks, non-clear drawstring bags, briefcases, coolers, hip packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, and binocular cases.
UMBC encourages guests to return any unauthorized items to their vehicles before entering the venue. A senior official stated that the University of Maryland, Baltimore County “cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the venue.”
Expedited Entry and Bag Availability
To facilitate quicker entry, “No Bag Lines” will be available at each entrance for fans who do not require a bag.For those needing a compliant bag, UMBC-branded clear bags will be available for purchase at the UMBC Bookstore and at game entrances.

- November 3 – Women’s Basketball vs. Stevenson
- November 4 – Men’s Basketball vs. Penn State York
- November 16 – Men’s Basketball vs. Wagner
- November 16 – Women’s Basketball vs. Brown
