The Cure Announces “The Show of a Lost World” Concert Film, Hints at New Music
A limited theatrical release of the concert film, capturing The Cure’s performance of their 2024 album Songs of a Lost World, will arrive in select cinemas worldwide on December 11. The announcement comes alongside news that the iconic band may have a new studio album in the works as early as 2025.
The film showcases a particularly intimate performance, filmed November 1, 2024, at the Troxy in London. This concert marked the first – and only – time The Cure performed Songs of a Lost World in its entirety. Tickets for “The Show of a Lost World” go on sale November 20 at 10 a.m. ET via the film’s official website.
The concert film is more than just a recording of a single night; it’s a meticulously crafted experience. The production team, led by director Nick Wickham – known for his work with artists like Madonna, Rihanna, and Beyoncé – has recut, remixed, and 4K remastered the footage. Notably, the film features a new surround sound mix personally overseen by The Cure’s Robert Smith.
The November 1st performance spanned 31 songs, encompassing the entirety of Songs of a Lost World as well as a special five-song set celebrating the 45th anniversary of their seminal sophomore album, Seventeen Seconds. Fans can also expect to hear beloved hits like “Boys Don’t Cry,” “In Between Days,” “A Night Like This,” “Disintegration,” and “The Walk.” A complete setlist is included at the end of this article.
“The Cure’s impact cannot be underestimated and this film is a testament to the artistry and depth of their music,” stated a representative from Trafalgar Releasing, one of the film’s distributors. “It’s a pleasure to bring ‘The Show of a Lost World’ to cinemas globally and give fans everywhere the opportunity to experience together this extraordinary concert on the big screen.”
The release of Songs of a Lost World in fall 2024 ended a 16-year gap since their previous studio album, 2008’s 4:13 Dream. However, the band has already signaled that fans may not have to wait another decade for new music. According to an update on their official website, The Cure returned to Rockfield Studios in March 2025 to begin recording 13 songs for a follow-up album.
Looking ahead, The Cure is scheduled to embark on a European and U.K. tour next summer, kicking off with a headlining performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona in June. This concert film serves as a compelling bridge between their latest album and the promise of more music to come, offering fans a unique and immersive experience of The Cure’s enduring legacy.
