The Brisbane Bullets have parted ways with former NBL champion and league MVP Jaylen Adams after just 13 games, signaling a significant shift in direction for the struggling club. The decision, first reported by CODE Sports, followed a Wednesday night loss to the New Zealand Breakers and initiated the process of terminating Adams’ contract.
Disappointing Performance Leads to Swift Action
Adams arrived in Brisbane in July with considerable expectations as a key import player. However, he failed to live up to the hype early in the season, averaging a career-low 12.8 points per game. Reports indicated concerns surrounding his on-court demeanor and work ethic contributed to the club’s decision.
“We are making quick, decisive moves to ensure our import spots are filled with elite talent as soon as possible,” Bullets CEO Malcolm Watts said in a statement released Friday afternoon. “Our club, our fans and our partners deserve a team that represents Brisbane with pride and professionalism.”
The Bullets confirmed they moved “decisively over the last 24 hours” to identify a replacement, suggesting a rapid roster reshuffle is underway.
Ian Clark Emerges as Potential Replacement
As the Bullets seek to bolster their import ranks, former Melbourne United guard Ian Clark has emerged as a leading candidate. Clark, a 2022 NBL champion with the Sydney Kings, is currently unsigned after a recent stint with Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico.
The 34-year-old brings a proven track record of leadership, professionalism, and scoring ability to any team he joins, having previously played for three NBL clubs. While rumored to have drawn interest from the Perth Wildcats earlier in the season, sources indicate the Brisbane Bullets are now actively pursuing his signature.
Patterson to Step Into Active Lineup Amidst Further Changes
The timing of Adams’ departure is further complicated by the season-ending injury to Casey Prather. With two key players sidelined, the Bullets are prioritizing immediate reinforcements. Lamar Patterson, currently designated as the team’s Nominated Replacement Player, is expected to move into the active lineup in the interim.
Watts indicated that further announcements regarding the team’s roster are forthcoming, suggesting a period of significant change for the Brisbane Bullets as they strive to turn their season around.
