Ren Meguro Joins ‘Shogun’ Season 2 Cast Alongside Returning Stars

A new wave of talent is joining the highly anticipated second season of FX’s critically acclaimed historical drama, “Shogun,” including Japanese pop star and actor Ren Meguro. The expansion of the cast signals a deepening of the series’ commitment to authentic storytelling and a broader exploration of its complex narrative.
The upcoming season will feature Meguro as the character Kazutada. The 28-year-old actor first gained prominence as a member of the idol group Snow Man in 2020 before transitioning to roles in television and film. He expressed his excitement about joining the production,stating,”Having grown up watching depictions of Japan through foreign media,I was acutely aware of past portrayals. As a japanese person,I felt a compelling urge to be part of this groundbreaking production.”

New Faces and Familiar Returns
Meguro is one of several new additions to the “Shogun” ensemble. He will be joined by Asami Mizukawa (Aya), Masataka Kubota (Hyūga), Sho Kaneta (Hidenobu), Takaaki Enoki (Lord Ito), and Jun kunimura (Gōda).
Notably, key cast members from the first season are also set to reprise their roles, including Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, alongside Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri. The return of these established performers promises continuity and depth to the unfolding saga.
A Decade Later: Plotting the Next Chapter
According to an official synopsis, “Shogun” Season 2 will be set a decade after the events of the first season. The narrative will continue to follow the intertwined destinies of two men from vastly different worlds, building upon the historically-inspired foundation established in the initial installment.
Creative Team Reassembled
The directorial team will see the return of Hiromi Kamata and Takeshi Fukunaga,who both directed episodes in Season 1. They will be joined by new directors anthony Byrne, Kate Herron, and series co-creator Justin Marks.
The writing team for Season 2 includes co-creator Rachel Kondo, alongside Marks, Shannon goss, matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente, and Sofie Somoroff.
Based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell, “Shogun” was created for television by Kondo and Marks and is produced by FX Productions. The series benefits from a robust executive production team including Kondo, Marks, Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca, and Sanada. Jarvis also serves as a co-executive producer, alongside Eriko Miyagawa. The continued involvement of these experienced creatives suggests a commitment to maintaining the high quality and historical accuracy that defined the first season, setting the stage for an equally compelling continuation of this epic tale.
