A trove of images from the estate of the late Jeffrey Epstein, released by House Democrats, has reignited scrutiny of powerful figures and their connections to the convicted sex offender. The release on Friday included 19 photos featuring Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and others, intensifying political pressure and raising further questions about the handling of the Epstein case.
House Democrats revealed the images after receiving 95,000 pictures from the Epstein estate as part of an ongoing investigation into the financier’s activities. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, a case that continues to generate controversy and demands for transparency.
Trump and Epstein: A History Revisited
The released photos depict Donald Trump alongside Epstein in several undated images. While the President has acknowledged a past friendship with Epstein, he has consistently maintained that the relationship ended more than two decades ago and vehemently denies any involvement in Epstein’s crimes.
Responding to the release, Trump stated he had not seen the pictures but noted, “everybody knew this man. He was all over Palm Beach.” He further asserted that “hundreds and hundreds of people” have photos with Epstein. One particularly striking image shows Trump-branded condoms with the slogan ‘I’m huuuuge!’ displayed alongside Epstein.
Beyond Trump: A Network of Connections
The photos extend beyond Trump, revealing Epstein’s connections to a wide range of influential individuals. Bill Clinton is pictured with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate. Steve Bannon, a longtime Trump ally, and filmmaker Woody Allen also appear in the released images. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, is also seen with Epstein in one of the photos.
Spokespeople for Clinton, Summers, Bannon, and Branson did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Representatives for Allen and Gates could not immediately be reached for comment. All individuals pictured have previously denied any wrongdoing.
Political Fallout and Calls for Transparency
The release of these images has sparked a political firestorm. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of “selectively releasing cherry-picked photos with random redactions to try and create a false narrative.” Jackson further claimed that “The Trump administration has done more for Epstein’s victims than Democrats ever have by repeatedly calling for transparency, releasing thousands of pages of documents, and calling for further investigations into Epstein’s Democrat friends.”
However, Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House oversight committee, countered that “It is time to end this White House cover-up and bring justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and his powerful friends.” He emphasized that “These disturbing photos raise even more questions about Epstein and his relationships with some of the most powerful men in the world. We will not rest until the American people get the truth. The Department of Justice must release all the files, NOW.”
DOJ Files and Ongoing Investigation
The release of the photos comes weeks after Trump signed into law a bill mandating the Department of Justice to release its files related to the Epstein case. The legislation, which passed Congress with near-unanimous support, requires Attorney General Pam Bondi to deliver all unclassified material by December 19. These files have yet to be published.
Republicans on the House oversight committee have accused Democrats of “chasing headlines,” asserting that the documents received so far reveal “nothing” indicating wrongdoing. They further claimed that Democrats have prioritized “politics above justice for the survivors.”
