Beloved Mother and Community Pillar, Annie-May Leech, Passes Away in County Mayo

A cherished mother, grandmother, and sister, Annie-May Leech of Tallagh, Belmullet, County Mayo, passed away peacefully at the Belmullet Community Hospital on December 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Her passing marks a significant loss for the close-knit community of Belmullet and beyond, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and gentle strength.
Annie-May’s life was marked by both joy and sorrow, having been predeceased by her husband, Paddy, her parents, Pat and Annie, an infant brother, Patrick, and, recently, her son-in-law, Philip. Despite these losses, she remained a steadfast presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren.
A Family Remembered
Annie-May is lovingly remembered by her children: Linda Chin of London, Michael Leech of Worthing, England, and Jane Leech of Portsmouth, England. Her memory will also be treasured by her seven grandchildren – Patrick, Marie Louise, Bridget, Thereze, Olivia, Cathy, and Dominic – who brought immense joy to her life.
She is survived by her brother, Eamon Burke of Tallagh, Belmullet, and her sisters, Rita Sweeney of Tallagh, Belmullet, and Mary Burke of Newcastle upon Tyne. Numerous nephews – Ivan, Stephen, David, and Dillon – and nieces – Diane, Rhona, and Olga – along with a wide circle of relatives, neighbors, and friends, mourn her loss.
Funeral Arrangements and Community Support
Annie-May will lie in repose at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet, on Monday evening, December 15th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, allowing friends and family to pay their respects. The funeral procession will then arrive at the Church of the Holy Family, Carne, Belmullet, on Tuesday, December 16th, for a Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon. Following the Mass, Annie-May will be laid to rest in Tarmoncarra Cemetery.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Belmullet Community Hospital, c/o McDonnell Funeral Directors, Belmullet, recognizing the compassionate care Annie-May received during her time there. This gesture reflects her commitment to the well-being of her community.
The passing of Annie-May Leech serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of family, community, and a life lived with kindness. Her gentle soul will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
