A devastating barrage of over 450 strike drones and 30 missiles targeted Ukraine overnight into Saturday, resulting in at least three deaths and ten injuries, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attacks, entering the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, have left thousands without power and water, and underscore the Kremlin’s continued aggression.
Civilian Infrastructure Under Fire
The eastern Donbas region bore the brunt of the assault, with the settlement of Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka suffering one fatality. Nearby, in Kostiantynivka, two more civilians were killed as Russian forces unleashed over 17 attacks on various settlements within the past 24 hours, also injuring six in Druzhkivka. The attacks highlight the intense fighting along one of the most active frontlines of the conflict.
The southern port city of Odesa sustained significant damage after a second consecutive night of strikes aimed at civilian areas and critical infrastructure. President Zelenskyy reported at least two civilian injuries in Odesa, adding that many residents are now experiencing widespread water and electricity outages.
“All necessary services are currently working to restore electricity and water supply in our communities affected by Russia’s overnight attack,” Zelenskyy stated in a post on X on Saturday. “Once again, the main strike targeted our energy sector, the south of the country, and the Odesa region.”
Widespread Damage and Disruption
The Ukrainian leader further detailed that more than a dozen facilities across the country were damaged in the overnight barrage. Thousands of families in the Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions are currently without electricity, with attacks also impacting the Dnipro and Cherkasy regions.
Zelenskyy vehemently condemned Moscow’s actions, asserting that the relentless attacks demonstrate a clear unwillingness to end the war. He accused the Kremlin of deliberately inflicting maximum pain on the Ukrainian people and attempting to destroy the state.
“It is important that everyone now sees what Russia is doing – every step they take in terror against our people, all their attacks, for this is clearly not about ending the war,” Zelenskyy emphasized. He urged allies to increase pressure on Moscow and compel them to the negotiating table to “end the war they started.”
Stalled Peace Talks and Counterattacks
Efforts to broker peace have reportedly stalled, with US President Donald Trump expressing “extreme frustration” with the lack of progress, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday. Kyiv has consistently stated its readiness to engage in peace negotiations, but has rejected what it deems unacceptable demands from Moscow.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s southwestern Saratov region resulted in two fatalities, as reported by regional Governor Roman Busargin. The attack caused damage to a residential building and shattered windows at a local kindergarten and clinic.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted and destroyed 41 Ukrainian drones over its territory overnight, asserting that the aerial threat was neutralized.
The escalating cycle of attacks and counterattacks underscores the deeply entrenched conflict and the urgent need for a diplomatic resolution. .
