Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit made a surprising move at the height of her career: relocating to the United States after marrying cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Shriram Nene in 1999.
Dixit always dreamed of a family life

Dixit revealed that marriage and family were always central to her aspirations. “I always thought I was going to get married and I’ll have a house and I’ll have children,” she said. “And when it actually happened, for me, it was like a dream. So I didn’t even think twice.” She affirmed, “This is the man I want as a partner for life,” and subsequently moved to the US, beginning a new chapter.
Dixit described Denver as an ‘upscale resort place’
For over a decade, Denver, Colorado, served as Dixit’s home. She described the city as “not a very big city, and not a very small one,” emphasizing its focus on health and outdoor activities. “So people are skiing, there’s Aspen, there’s Vail, and all these mountains. People go there to ski. It’s more like a resort place which is very upscale.”
Dixit was familiar with the US lifestyle
The transition to life in the US wasn’t jarring for Dixit, as she had frequently visited siblings already residing there. “I had visited my siblings who have lived in the US. I knew what life is all about,” she explained. “You’ve got to do everything yourself, so nothing was a shock like ‘Oh my god, what did I get myself into’ or anything.”
Dixit cherished her time with kids in the US
Dixit fondly recalled the simple joys of raising her children in the US. “In fact, I quite enjoyed that quiet time that I had by myself doing my own things and having my kids,” she shared. “Taking them to the park without being recognized and just having fun with them, sitting on the jhoola (swing) with them and…stuff like that.” Dixit is currently starring in the new series Mrs Deshpande, available on JioHotstar.
