The Black Caps have named squads for both the ODI and T20I series, balancing experiance with emerging talent.
Lennox, who has claimed eight wickets in five Ford Trophy outings for Central Districts this season, has been “identified as a player of interest for some time,” according to New Zealand head coach Rob Walter. alongside Lennox, uncapped bowling-allrounder Kristian Clarke, legspinning-allrounder Adithya Ashok, seam-bowling allrounder Josh Clarkson, and fast bowler Michael Rae – who recently debuted in Test cricket against the West Indies – have also been selected for the ODI series.
What’s the benefit of sending players to India before a major tournament? Walter emphasized the value of exposing players to sub-continental conditions, stating, “Playing in the sub-continent is obviously very different to what we’re used to in New Zealand, so any possibility we can get to expose our guys to those conditions can only be a good thing, especially prior to a T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.”
Michael Bracewell will lead the 15-member ODI squad while Mitchell Santner recovers from a groin injury. Santner is expected to return as captain for the T20I series, which will feature explosive batters Bevon Jacobs and Tim Robinson, alongside Mark Chapman and Matt Henry. Henry will miss the ODIs to prioritize his recovery from a calf tear, hoping to be fully fit for the T20Is and the subsequent men’s T20 World Cup.
Star batter Kane Williamson will be unavailable for the ODI portion of the tour due to his participation in the SA20 league, where he will represent Durban’s Supergiants.
Several players are unavailable for various reasons. Kristian Clarke was previously called up for both the England ODI series and the West indies Test squad but didn’t make his debut. Nathan Smith, William O’Rourke, and Blair Tickner are sidelined due to side, back, and shoulder injuries, respectively. Tom Latham will miss the ODIs for the birth of his third child.Kyle Jamieson and Zak Foulkes are included in both white-ball squads, while Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy have been rested following a demanding home summer.
Mitchell Hay and Devon conway will handle wicketkeeping duties for the ODIs and T20Is, respectively. lockie Ferguson (ILT20), Adam Milne (SA20), finn Allen, and Tim Seifert (both BBL) are scheduled to join the T20I squad later in the series, with a focus on readiness for the T20 World Cup.
