Syrian security forces, backed by the U.S.-led international coalition, announced Wednesday evening the arrest of Taha al-Zoubi, known as Abu Omar Tabiya, in the Damascus region. This advancement comes more than ten days after an attack, which Washington has blamed on ISIS, that resulted in the deaths of two U.S. soldiers and an interpreter in central Syria.

“Our specialized units, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate and the forces of the international coalition, carried out a security operation… targeting one of ISIS’s hideouts” in the al-Moadamiya sector, saeid the head of Damascus province’s internal security, General Ahmad Al-Dalati, according to the official Sana news agency.

The leader of ISIS in Damascus, Taha al-Zoubi, known as Abu Omar Tabiya, was arrested along with his associates during the operation, he added. “This constitutes a severe blow to the organization and confirms the high readiness of our security services to counter any threat to the security of the province (of Damascus) and its surroundings,” he stated.
