Leo Maslíah, born in Montevideo in 1954, launched his career in 1974 with a performance of a Handel concerto for organ and strings as part of the SODRE “Music in the Ships†cycle. since the late 1970s, he has been a prolific composer, performer, and writer, showcasing his work in Argentina and touring extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, and the United States.

Maslíah’s extensive body of work includes over 40 books and nearly 50 albums encompassing both popular and academic music. He has received Gardel awards for his albums “à rboles†(2008) and “Leo Maslíah plays Bach†(2020). His compositions span piano, chamber, and orchestral pieces, including symphonic works, concerts, and the opera “Maldoror,†which premiered at the Teatro Colón in 2003.

As a playwright, Maslíah has penned numerous plays, often directing and performing in them himself, ranging from “Medical Certifications†(1982) to “Influencers,†a collaboration with Daniel Hendler. He has been recognized with honors from the Konex Foundation, the morosoli award, and multiple national literature and music awards in Uruguay.
