Man Arrested in alleged New Year’s Day Vandalism of Los Angeles City Hall

A man was arrested Saturday in connection with the alleged vandalism of Los Angeles City Hall on New Year’s Day, authorities reported. The incident, which involved extensive damage too both the interior and exterior of the building, prompted a swift response from the los Angeles Police Department.

Damage Reported Thursday Evening

Officers from the LAPD’s Security Services Division responded to reports of the damage at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, january 4, 2024, according to an official LAPD statement. The damage extended to multiple areas of the historic building.

Police stated the suspect, identified as Jose Gonzalez Chavez, gained entry by breaking a locked glass door at the First Street entrance. he then allegedly proceeded to the third floor, where “multiple areas – including the hallway and rotunda – were vandalized.”

The suspect reportedly left the facility and was taken into custody without incident. Chavez was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism.
