The automotive market in India is preparing for a new powertrain option as JSW MG Motor India opens pre-bookings for the upcoming Hector Hawk. Based on the Wuling Starlight 560 already sold in several Asian countries, the vehicle relies on MG’s all-new ADAPT architecture, marking the company’s first electrified platform built specifically to support plug-in hybrid and electric setups in India.
The Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain and Range Specifications
At the heart of the Hector Hawk’s market pitch is its plug-in hybrid setup, a configuration currently absent from the mass market in India. International variants run on a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. This combination delivers a total output of 197 PS and 230 Nm of torque. On China’s CLTC cycle, the international configuration achieves a combined driving range exceeding 1,100 km, with nearly 100 km available on electric power alone.
Cabin Layout and Technology Suite
Inside the cabin, the dashboard centers on a large 12.8-inch touchscreen that manages media, navigation, and phone pairing while reducing reliance on physical switches. Alongside the central display sits an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, replacing traditional analog dials with configurable speed readouts, trip data, navigation pointers, and hybrid system status indicators. Comfort features include power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, designed to handle high summer temperatures. A massive panoramic sunroof completes the interior package, expanding the perceived cabin space for passengers across all three rows.
Safety Systems and Driver Assistance
The Hector Hawk incorporates a Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems suite, adapting safety tech for domestic buyers. Confirmed features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), High Beam Assist (HBA), and Traffic Sign Recognition. These systems operate alongside standard safety equipment, which includes six airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking with electronic brakeforce distribution, and a 360-degree camera system.
Market Positioning and Competitive Landscape
Pricing for the Hector Hawk is expected to start near Rs 25 lakh ex-showroom when it enters the market. Built upon a relatively large footprint, the SUV enters a competitive segment where it will challenge established three-row alternatives.
