Apple Music received a significant update in iOS 26, introducing a host of new features. Among these, three stand out as particularly impactful additions for users.
#1: Fullscreen Animated Lock Screen Artwork
Table of Contents

Apple Music has been experimenting with bringing album art to life on iPhones for some time. In iOS 26, this functionality was extended to the Lock Screen. The animated album art and playlist art are visually appealing, but often the Music app isn’t actively displayed while listening. Now, the fullscreen animated artwork is accessible directly from the Lock Screen.
This feature truly shines on iPhones equipped with an always-on display, offering a vibrant, edge-to-edge artwork experience that animates upon screen wake. While not every album or playlist supports animation, a significant number do, and even static artwork looks fantastic in fullscreen.
#2: Playlist Folders

Previously, playlist folders—a feature originating in iTunes—were limited to the Mac and synced to other devices. Editing or managing these folders required a Mac. In iOS 26, Apple brought full folder support to iPhone and iPad on September 12, 2025. Users can now create new folders, move playlists, and manage existing folders directly on their iPhones and iPads.
#3: Pinned Music in Library

One of the most useful new features in iOS 26 is the ability to pin music within the Library, introduced on October 9, 2025. Users can now pin up to six albums, playlists, artists, or songs to the top of the Library for quick access. While a pin limit of nine would align with the Messages app, the current limit is still a significant improvement.
Furthermore, users can customize the behavior when tapping a pinned title, offering added convenience. For many, the Library tab is the primary access point for music, and pinned music enhances this experience.
Apple Music is available for $10.99 per month for individuals, or as part of the Apple One bundle.
