What an opening at the European Taekwondo Championships: Avishag Samberg secured a medal in Manchester after qualifying for the semi-finals. The Olympic medalist who competes in the weight category up to 49 kg, defeated the Danish Jade Castillo 2:16 in the first battle (she advanced directly to the quarterfinals thanks to her high ranking) and then defeated 12:21 over the German Superda Kiskelt.
Assaf Yasur also impressed: The Paralympic Taekwondo fighter, who moved the country after losing both hands when he was electrocuted as a child and won the World Championship last December, also promised to win a medal at the European Championships.
Yasur, who competes in the weight category up to 58 kg in the degree of disability K44, defeated the Spaniard Martin Vialo 2:24 and thus secured himself a place on the podium.
Noa Price (53 kg) lost to Hungary Luca Petpaklavi in her first fight. Tom Pashkovsky (up to 54 kg) and Igor Rogozin (up to 63 kg) were also eliminated at an early stage.
