Gimje City, in North Jeolla Province, launched a new initiative on January 5th aimed at improving healthcare access for seniors: the ‘Healthy White Body Survey project.’ The program will reach 100 senior citizen centers throughout the district.

The project, running weekly for nine months, offers customized exercise routines-simple gymnastics and stretching-designed for easy participation without requiring any special equipment. It’s about more than just movement; it’s about boosting joint adaptability, balance, and strength to help older adults maintain their physical function and reduce the risk of falls.

Early results from 2025 are particularly encouraging. An analysis of 897 seniors who participated in the program last year revealed positive changes across several key health indicators. Participants experienced a decrease in average blood sugar levels (from 145 to 142), an average weight loss of 1 kilogram, increased lower body strength (improving from 15 to 18 chair stands), and enhanced balance (holding a single-leg stand for 13 seconds compared to 10 seconds previously). Thes improvements suggest a meaningful impact on maintaining physical health in later life.

Building on this success, Gimje City plans to expand the program in 2026, strengthening its presence in senior centers to reach even more residents. The city will also continuously monitor participants’ physical changes and develop a proactive health management system.

“Healthy 100-year exercise is the most realistic health management method that seniors can practice without burden in their daily lives,” stated a public health center official. “We will continue to provide support so that it can become a lifestyle habit, not just a short-term exercise.”
