Storm Goretti: Speed Limits and Overtaking Bans in Ille-et-Vilaine
Expect slower speeds and no passing on most roads in the department as a powerful storm rolls in.
- From 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday, speed limits will be reduced by 20 km/h for certain vehicles.
- The restrictions apply to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, campers, trailers, caravans, and motorcycles.
- Overtaking is prohibited for these vehicle types during the specified period.
- The measures exclude national roads and motorways within the department.
- Motorists are advised to postpone travel if possible.
The prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine announced the measures, which begin at 6 p.m. this Thursday and remain in place until 6 a.m. this Friday. The speed reduction of 20 km/h applies to:
- Vehicles and combinations of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 7.5 tonnes, including public transport.
- Campers and light towed vehicles such as trailers and caravans.
- Motorcycles.
In addition to the reduced speed limits, these same vehicle types are prohibited from overtaking during the storm’s duration. These restrictions cover all roads within the department, with the exception of national roads and motorways.
Bison Futé specifically advises motorists “to exercise the greatest caution and to postpone, as far as possible, their travels.”
What should drivers do during Storm Goretti? Drivers in Ille-et-Vilaine should reduce their speed by 20 km/h and refrain from overtaking if operating a vehicle over 7.5 tonnes, a camper, a trailer, a caravan, or a motorcycle.
