Cardiff Rugby Celebrates Grassroots Game with Successful Clubs’ Day Initiative
More than 1,000 young players, coaches, and parents experienced a memorable day celebrating the strength of community rugby as part of Cardiff Rugby’s inaugural Clubs’ Day of the 2025-26 season. The initiative underscores the professional club’s commitment to fostering the development of the sport at the local level.
Strengthening the Link Between Professional and Grassroots Rugby
Cardiff Rugby’s Clubs’ Day is designed to recognize the vital contribution local clubs make within their communities and to strengthen the connection between the professional game and its grassroots foundation. The program unfolded across two fixtures, beginning with a matchday experience for Minis teams – encompassing players from Under 7s to Under 11s – during Cardiff’s recent victory over Racing 92.
The remaining clubs will be showcased when Cardiff Rugby hosts Benetton Rugby at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 7:45 PM (19:45 KO). A total of 25 clubs representing the breadth of the Cardiff Rugby region participated in the first event, with young players proudly displaying their colors and participating in the traditional half-time parade.
Positive Response and Community Reach
Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation Director Nadine Griffiths expressed her delight with the turnout and the vibrant atmosphere created by the participating clubs. “It was fantastic to see so many young players and families at the Arms Park and to feel that buzz around the stadium,” Griffiths stated. “Clubs’ Day is all about celebrating the grassroots game and the people who make it special, and the response we’ve had has been brilliant.”
Griffiths also highlighted the regional reach of the initiative, noting the participation of clubs traveling from outside of Cardiff. “That really shows the reach of the Cardiff Rugby region and how strong the connection is across our communities,” she said. “We wanted to do this as a way of thanking everyone involved in these clubs for their contribution and hard work in the game of rugby up and down the country.”
Junior Clubs’ Day Opportunity
The next installment, a Junior Clubs’ Day, will coincide with the home fixture against Benetton Rugby on January 24, 2026. This opportunity is open to all junior teams within the Cardiff Rugby region, ranging from Under 12s to Under 16s. Each participating club will receive 20 complimentary junior tickets and five adult tickets.
