After a grueling 17-day search, authorities have confirmed the recovery of Syafiq Ridhan Ali Razan, an 18-year-old climber who went missing on Mount Slamet. The discovery brings a somber end to a large-scale rescue operation that involved numerous organizations and local communities.

Search Concludes on Mount Malang

The climber was located on Wednesday afternoon, January 14, 2026, on the ridgeline of Mount Malang, near the Batu Watu Langgar area, at approximately 10:22 WIB. The recovery occurred during the second phase of the search, which had only been underway for two days. A senior official stated, “We convey that the survivor named Ali Syafiq has been found in MD condition (dead).”

Extensive Collaboration in Rescue Efforts

The successful, though tragic, conclusion of the search was attributed to the extensive collaboration between multiple teams. These included Wandri, Mayapada, UPL, MPA Unsoed, Wikupala, ABGI, Mapala Batik, Mapala Kanpas, and the RAPI Community. Support also came from representatives of Forkopimda and Forkopimcam from the Pulosari District.

According to reports, the second-stage SAR team had been diligently searching the area for two days before locating the climber. One analyst noted the challenging terrain and weather conditions significantly hampered the initial search efforts.

Ongoing Investigation and Support

The circumstances surrounding the climber’s disappearance and subsequent death are currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the cause of death.

The recovery of Syafiq Ridhan Ali Razan underscores the inherent risks associated with mountaineering and the importance of comprehensive safety measures. The dedication and collaborative spirit demonstrated by the search and rescue teams serve as a testament to the commitment to assisting those in need, even in the face of challenging circumstances.
