Hawkeyes Dominate in Dual Meet Sweep of Illinois and Nebraska

The University of Iowa swimming and diving team delivered a commanding performance on saturday, securing victories against both Illinois (193-179) and Nebraska (216-156). This dual meet sweep elevates Iowa’s season record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 within the Big Ten Conference.

The success, according to a team spokesperson, was a testament to collective effort. “This weekend was a total team effort,” they stated. “With diving events in Iowa City and swimming events in Champaign, it took all of us to earn a pair of big Ten dual meet wins against two very tough teams. It was exciting to see our team come together and support one another to victory. We look forward to continuing this momentum into the last two dual meets of the season the last weekend of January.”

Freshman flowers Shines in Champaign

Leading the charge in Champaign,Illinois,was freshman Payton Flowers,who secured wins in both the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.00 and the 100-meter freestyle, finishing in 50.94.Her performance provided a significant boost to the Hawkeyes’ overall score.

Junior Jenna Kerr also contributed strongly, winning the 200-meter freestyle in 1:51.01 and placing second in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:01.59.

the Hawkeyes sealed their victories with a dominant performance in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Flowers anchored the first leg, followed by Rachel Dildine, Audrey Olen, and Ella Jean Kelly, completing the race in 1:33.50.

Strong Performances Across the Board

Beyond the individual wins, Iowa showcased depth with several strong finishes. Sophomore Elizabeth Beam secured second place in both the 100-meter backstroke (57.44) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:04.38). Junior Olivia Swalley earned silver medals in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:19.92) and the 200-meter individual medley (2:04.74), adding a bronze in the 200-meter butterfly (2:05.72).
