The future of rehabilitation care is shifting towards a more integrated and collaborative approach, and a recent meeting in Italy highlighted the growing momentum behind this change.

Tuscany Region Prioritizes Integrated Rehabilitation Care for neuromotor conditions

Over one hundred healthcare professionals, association representatives, and citizens gathered at the “Eduardo De Filippo” municipal theatre in Cecina to discuss “the treatment system for motor pathologies,” signaling a strong regional interest in improving care for those with neuromotor conditions. The event underscored the critical need for a unified system that prioritizes rehabilitation as a lifelong right.

A Call for Integrated Care Across Tuscany

How can fragmented healthcare approaches be overcome to provide better support for individuals with motor disabilities? the meeting participants emphasized the necessity of bridging gaps between hospitals, community services, and social support networks. A key takeaway was the recognition that effective rehabilitation isn’t just about medical intervention; its about a holistic approach that addresses the individual’s entire life and well-being.

  • Collaboration between local authorities, healthcare systems, and associations is vital.
  • Rehabilitation should be recognized as a fundamental right throughout life.
  • Strengthening integration between hospital, territory, and social services is crucial.
  • The perspectives of patients and caregivers must be central to treatment plans.

The morning session, moderated by vincenza Zagaria, coordinator of the Participation Committee of the Etruscan Valleys and president of the Vita Autonomous BVC Association, featured opening remarks from Cecina Mayor Lia Burgalassi and federico Posteraro, head of the Northern Homogeneous Functional Area of the Rehabilitation Department. Greetings were also shared on behalf of Sandra Scarpellini, president of the Valli Etrusche Health Society, and Giacomo Corsini, health director of the North West Tuscany USL company, who was unable to attend.

Discussions throughout the day focused on models of care, potential innovations, and the importance of patient-centered treatment. Experts and association representatives, including physiotherapists, shared insights and concrete contributions to improve existing systems.
