Zootopia 2 Leaps to Top of Animated Box Office Charts with $1.7 Billion global Gross

Disney’s Zootopia 2 has officially become teh highest-grossing animated film in Hollywood history, amassing a remarkable $1.703 billion worldwide. The sequel surpassed the $1.7 billion earned by Inside Out 2 in 2024, solidifying its place as a cinematic juggernaut. However, the Chinese fantasy film Ne Zha 2 still reigns supreme as the highest-grossing animated movie globally, with an astounding $2.259 billion.
A New Top Ten Contender
Zootopia 2 now ranks as the ninth highest-grossing global release of all time, exceeding the lifetime box office earnings of films like 2019’s The Lion King ($1.663 billion), 2015’s Jurassic World ($1.672 billion),and Inside Out 2. The film trails only spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.921 billion) at number eight.
Avatar: Fire and Ash Faces Uncertain Future
disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has earned $1.319 billion worldwide after five weeks ($363.5 million domestic, $955.3 million international).Its future is uncertain as James Cameron hasn’t confirmed Avatar 4 or Avatar 5. Analysts question if earnings will secure further funding.
Mixed Fortunes for New Releases
28 Years Later: The Bone temple opened with $31.2 million globally ($13 million domestic). This is lower than the first film’s $30 million domestic debut. Despite positive reviews, timing may be a factor. A third film is planned.
The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda seyfried, reached $247.3 million worldwide in its fifth weekend, driven by strong word of mouth.
A24’s Marty Supreme earned $9.8 million this weekend, totaling $99.5 million. It’s A24’s highest-grossing North American release, surpassing Everything Everywhere All at Once.
