Kosovo is emerging as a surprising destination for medical tourism, and one 25-year-old is sharing his experience with a hair transplant there. Marco, a real estate manager, traveled to Kosovo in October 2025 to undergo the procedure, hoping to address hair loss that began around age 21.
A Proactive Approach to Appearance

Many men experience hair loss, but Marco wanted to address it before it became more noticeable. “You can’t stop him,” he said, referring to the natural process of balding. “There are a lot of people who are bald, but then I would look a lot older.” He emphasized that his decision was about aesthetics, not insecurity. “I did the transplant for aesthetic reasons, not because of insecurities,” he explained.

Hairdresser’s Recommendation Leads to Kosovo Clinic
Marco’s decision to pursue a hair transplant was influenced by his age. “The fact that I’m only 25 and not yet 40 helped me decide to actually do the hair transplant,” he stated. His hairdresser suggested a clinic in Kosovo, a location that gained additional credibility for Marco when he learned that soccer player Granit Xhaka had also been a patient there.
The FUE Procedure and a Long Day at the Clinic
The clinic utilized the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method, carefully removing individual hairs with their roots from a donor area and transplanting them to balding spots. Marco described the process as feeling “like I was in a tattoo studio,” with hair extracted from the sides of his head and replanted on top. The procedure involved making small incisions in his scalp, and while the anesthetic injections were painful, he said he was comfortable afterward.
The operation lasted over twelve hours, and the medical team even took a lunch break to order pizza. A total of around 6,500 hair implants were inserted during the lengthy session. “We ordered pizza at lunchtime,” he said.
Cost and Recovery
Marco paid roughly 2,000 francs for the hair transplant itself, with the nine-day stay bringing the total cost to around 2,500 francs. He described the clinic as modern and well-equipped, noting a significant number of Swiss license plates in the parking lot.
The procedure is typically recommended during the winter months to minimize sweating and promote healing. “I had to stay still for a month so that it could heal well,” Marco explained, spending the first eight days after the operation in Kosovo with daily follow-up appointments and scalp cleanings. He had also considered Turkey as an option, but ultimately decided against it, fearing that the abundance of choices and higher prices might compromise quality. “They offer whole experiences. I was afraid that they were compensating for quality.”
While the final results won’t be fully visible for about a year, Marco is already pleased with the progress. “Compared to before, it’s certainly better,” he said.
