CD Projekt RED to Unveil Cyberpunk Trading Card Game in First Official Presentation

A new way to experience the world of Night City is on the horizon. CD Projekt RED is set to host the first full presentation of its upcoming Cyberpunk Trading Card Game on January 21, offering fans a deeper dive into the project developed in collaboration with WeirdCo.

Cyberpunk’s Resurgence Fuels Brand Expansion

The announcement comes as Cyberpunk 2077 experiences a remarkable comeback, achieving “truly excellent results” after a rocky launch. This revitalization has emboldened CD Projekt RED to explore new avenues for expanding the Cyberpunk universe beyond its core video game offerings. According to a company release, the studio aims to keep fans engaged with Night City “not only while waiting for the next game, but all the time through various projects.”

A New Format for Night City Immersion

A few weeks ago, developers teased a “new Cyberpunk” experience, and now they are providing specifics. The Cyberpunk Trading Card Game represents a significant departure from the traditional video game format, offering a completely different way to immerse oneself in the dystopian world. The presentation will not only detail the game’s rules but will also showcase practical gameplay, with plans to display “1-2 matches” to demonstrate the flow and emotional impact of duels.

Presentation Details and What to Expect

The livestream event is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21st, at 5:00 PM CET. It will be broadcast as part of a REDstreams episode, hosted by @Lilayaah and @pawelburza, alongside members of the development team.

However, CD Projekt RED is proactively managing expectations. A senior official stated that the presentation will be solely focused on the trading card game, with “no video game-related announcements” planned. This means fans should not anticipate any news regarding Cyberpunk 2, additional expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, or other related video game projects. The focus, unequivocally, is on cards.

The studio’s strategic move into the trading card game space signals a commitment to building a lasting and multifaceted Cyberpunk brand, extending its reach beyond the realm of interactive entertainment and into the competitive world of collectible card games.
