Domhnall Gleeson Celebrates Rachel McAdams’ Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Calls Her a “Phenomenal Actor”

Rachel McAdams, the celebrated star of films like Mean Girls and The Notebook, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, with fellow actor Domhnall Gleeson delivering a heartfelt and humorous tribute.
The recognition honors McAdams’ significant contributions to the film industry, a career spanning two decades and encompassing a diverse range of critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects. Gleeson, who shared the screen with McAdams in the 2013 romantic comedy About Time, playfully lamented her seemingly effortless talent and personal qualities.
A Co-Star’s Affectionate Ribbing
Gleeson’s remarks, delivered with characteristic wit, highlighted the seemingly unfair perfection of McAdams. “Life, and more importantly, Hollywood, has taught me that you are not supposed to have it all,” he quipped. “It is not fair to be everyone’s favourite person on set and the best actor in the room.” He continued to playfully chide her for balancing a thriving career with motherhood, stating, “It is selfish of you to be a devoted mother of two, putting family above all else and a huge movie star continually knocking it out of the park commercially and artistically.”
The Irish actor recalled their time working together on About Time, a film centered on a man who can travel through time to find love. He shared that McAdams’ performance was so convincing, it genuinely made him believe in the possibility of time travel. “No matter the role, I always believe the characters you create,” Gleeson explained. “You make me understand all of them and in this way, you make everything better. Every movie, every genre, every character… you make them all better, and we are very lucky to have you.”
McAdams Reflects on Mentorship and Legacy
During her acceptance speech, McAdams expressed gratitude to a lineage of influential actors who shaped her career. She specifically honored the late Diane Keaton, her co-star in The Family Stone, who passed away in October at age 79 from pneumonia. McAdams described Keaton as someone who “took me under her wing like I was her own daughter,” and imparted the wisdom to “leave everything you’ve got on the table” with each performance.
She also acknowledged the impact of Gena Rowlands and Sam Shepard, recognizing their pioneering contributions to the craft. “I’d like to thank the stars up above down here, the legendary working actors who I was given the great gift to learn from,” McAdams stated.
From Mean Girls to Hollywood Icon
McAdams first gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Regina George in the 2004 hit comedy Mean Girls, alongside Lindsay Lohan. This breakthrough role paved the way for a diverse filmography, including the beloved romance The Notebook with Ryan Gosling, and subsequent roles in Midnight in Paris (2011), The Vow (2012), Doctor Strange (2016), and the upcoming thriller Send Help.
