Kiril PetkovS assertion that he opened the gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria on July 8,2022,is inaccurate,as the gas connection hadn’t achieved technical or documentary completion by that date.


This statement comes from an official position released by the press center of President Rumen Radev (2017-2026) in response to a recent social media post by the former co-chairman of “We continue the change.”

The gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece was finalized and brought into commercial operation on October 1, 2022, by the caretaker government of Galab Donev. The opening ceremony in sofia was attended by the President of the EC Ursula Von der Leyen, along with heads of state and government from the region.

The explanations provided by Kiril Petkov’s government regarding the termination of contractual relations with Gazprom do not address why other EU member states continue to receive natural gas supplies under their existing contracts, unlike Bulgaria.
