Dave Coulier Announces Remission from Both Tongue Cancer and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

A remarkable story of resilience unfolded on Wednesday as actor and comedian Dave Coulier revealed he is now in remission from both tongue cancer and a previous battle with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The 66-year-old star shared his journey during a live interview on “Good Morning America,” describing the past few years as “a roller coaster ride.” He confirmed he is currently in remission from both cancers, marking a significant milestone in his health.

Coulier initially disclosed his diagnosis of p16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue in December, just one year after completing treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. he explained that the second diagnosis came during a routine checkup.
“I was going in for a checkup for the lymphoma and got a PET scan and it revealed that something was in my throat, and they said, ‘let’s take a look at this,'” Coulier recalled. A subsequent robotic surgery and biopsy confirmed the presence of a second, unrelated cancer.
Early Detection Proves Critical
Doctors resolute the two cancer diagnoses were not connected. According to Coulier, the PET scan and swift detection were instrumental in his positive outcome. “It was revealed that I have carcinoma. And totally unrelated,” he stated. “that PET scan and early detection…saved my life.”
Coulier had previously announced plans to undergo 35 radiation treatments, concluding at the end of 2025, to combat the squamous carcinoma. He openly discussed the challenging side effects of radiation therapy.
Facing Cancer with Laughter and Support
“Radiation has totally different side effects.It can steal parts of your life away from you – psychologically, emotionally and certainly physically,” Coulier shared. Though, he emphasized his determination to maintain a positive outlook. “And I wasn’t going to allow cancer to do that. I was going to laugh my way through it and keep the people that I love close to me and that helps.”
The actor credited his wife, Melissa, for her unwavering support throughout his ordeal.He also highlighted the crucial role of his close friend and “Full House” co-star,John Stamos.
“John flew into Michigan,came and visited us and made me laugh,” Coulier said. He recounted a particularly humorous moment when Stamos arrived wearing a bald cap, prompting Coulier to burst into laughter.The visit took an unexpected turn when Stamos contracted COVID-19 while staying with the family, leading to a playful quarantine reminiscent of childhood.
Advocating for Proactive Health Checks
Coulier expressed his hope that his experience will encourage others to prioritize their health and undergo regular medical checkups. “I never wanted to be the poster boy for cancer, believe me, but now I feel like I can encourage people to get those prostate exams and mammograms and just talk to your doctors and get ahead of this,” he urged.
Despite achieving remission, Coulier acknowledged the lingering awareness of cancer. “Because even though I’m in remission, I feel like cancer is always in the rear-view mirror.”
