Principal dancer Isabella Boylston, of the American Ballet Theatre, is preparing for a new role: motherhood. The celebrated ballerina announced on Wednesday,Feb. 4, that she is expecting her frist child with husband Daniel Shin this June.

A Summer Arrival for the Ballet Star

Boylston shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting a mirror selfie showcasing her baby bump alongside a sweet image of her cat gazing at a sonogram.

The dance company shared the news in a press release, assuring fans that she intends to return for the 2026-2027 season.

While Boylston prepares for motherhood, the American Ballet Theatre has announced adjustments to its upcoming performances. Madison Brown will step in as Emilia in Othello: A Dance in Three Acts on March 6, March 8, and March 20.Mozartiana will feature Christine Shevchenko and Andrew Robare on March 14, and Chloe Misseldine and Michael de la Nuez on March 18.

Boylston reflected on her nearly two decades with the American Ballet Theatre in a video shared by the company in December. She described the art form’s enduring beauty as stemming from its intergenerational transmission: “how it’s passed down generation to generation, dancer to dancer.” She added,”It always evolves as I think we’re people of our time,and so naturally we bring something of the era that we live in to the work that we are bringing to the stage.”

The essence of these classic ballets, she believes, lies in the knowledge and artistry passed down from those who came before.
