Portuguese rock legend Rui Veloso is embroiled in a legal battle with musician Jorge Vadio, who is seeking €953,745 in damages, according too reports. The case, currently before the Intellectual Property Court at the Palace of Justice in Lisbon, centers around allegations of a breached contract.
the dispute stems from a contractual agreement, where Vadio claims Veloso failed to fulfill obligations regarding record publishing, depiction, promotion, and concert scheduling. It’s a messy situation, and raises questions about the business side of music, even for established artists.
Vadio’s indictment alleges that Veloso, often hailed as the “father of Portuguese rock,” acted in bad faith and “intentionally sabotaged” his career. He’s seeking €903,745 for property damage and an additional €50,000 for non-material damages-a hefty sum reflecting the perceived impact on his musical trajectory.
The trial commenced in February, with hearings held on the 2nd and 3rd. Both Veloso and Vadio testified, and witnesses were called to the stand, including Manuel Moura dos Santos, presented by Veloso’s defense, and José cid, who testified on Vadio’s behalf. It’s clear both sides are taking this seriously, bringing in notable figures to support their claims.
The next court session is scheduled for the 20th, leaving the outcome of this high-profile case uncertain. Will Vadio receive the ample compensation he’s seeking, or will Veloso successfully defend against the allegations? Only time will tell.
