Artificial intelligence is poised to unlock unprecedented wealth, perhaps birthing the world’s first trillionaire, according to billionaire investor Mark Cuban. The entrepreneur, known for his role on Shark Tank and former ownership of the Dallas Mavericks, believes the current wave of AI innovation is just the beginning of a transformative era.
The Dawn of a new Economic Era
“We haven’t seen the best or the craziest of what [AI is] going to be able to do,” Cuban stated in a recent interview on the High Performance podcast. He envisions a future where a single individual, working independently, could amass a fortune exceeding $1 trillion. “And not only do I think it’s going to happen,I think it’s going to happen faster then people think.” Cuban believes the speed of innovation will be dramatically accelerated by AI, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to scale businesses and generate wealth at an unprecedented rate. He predicts this trillionaire will emerge by 2027, driven by the exponential growth of AI-powered solutions.
Cuban believes AI will accelerate this trend, surpassing all previous innovation cycles. “There’s always something bigger and better that’s created by an innovative entrepreneur,” he said, “But AI just dwarfs all that.”
Cuban’s Personal AI integration
Cuban isn’t simply an observer of this technological revolution; he’s an active participant. He describes himself as a near-ubiquitous user of AI, leveraging its capabilities in various aspects of his life. One especially compelling example is his use of ChatGPT to manage his health.
Suffering from atrial fibrillation (A-fib), Cuban utilizes the AI chatbot to track his medications and workout routines. He also prompts ChatGPT to flag any potentially concerning patterns in his self-reported data. “And damn if it doesn’t do it,” Cuban remarked. “Now you’ve got to be careful. It’s like talking to a friend who you think knows a lot about something. You’ve still got to be careful and talk to an expert, but being able to do the process and just having things identified that I might not have known to look for was insane-just insane.”
Cuban acknowledges the inherent risks associated wiht relying on AI for critical decisions, particularly in healthcare. While tools like ChatGPT offer accessible advice, experts caution against their limitations and potential for errors. to mitigate these risks, Cuban actively challenges the AI’s responses, demanding evidence and conducting self-reliant research.
“There’s times when I don’t think the answer is what it should be,or I think it’s wrong,” he explained. “And I’ll say, ‘I don’t think you’re right. I need you to show me the evidence of how you got to this decision.'” He approaches the interaction with a healthy dose of skepticism, comparing it to “calling bulls” on a friend or colleague.
The Future of work in the Age of AI
Despite concerns about widespread job displacement, Cuban dismisses the notion that AI will render most professions obsolete. “I can just go on all the s I’m trying with AI,and I’m not here to tell you that it’s going to replace everybody’s job. It won’t,” he predicted.Instead, he believes AI will augment human capabilities, freeing individuals to pursue creative endeavors and passions. “But the things that you like to do, if you’re creative, innovative, whatever it may be-or you’re just bored-it might end up being the best choice to boredom.”
Cuban emphasizes that we are currently in the “preseason” of AI development, suggesting that the most significant advancements are yet to come. While acknowledging the potential for transformative change, he dismisses dystopian scenarios like those depicted in The Terminator, focusing instead on the potential for AI to enhance and improve daily life. The coming years promise to be a period of unprecedented innovation, driven by the relentless progress of artificial intelligence and the entrepreneurial spirit it unlocks.
