Measles Outbreak Claims 15th Child’s Life, Fuels Vaccine Urgency
A preventable tragedy is unfolding as a measles outbreak continues to claim young lives. On Friday, health officials within the Israeli occupation government announced the death of a nine-year-old child from measles, bringing the total number of pediatric fatalities to 15 since the outbreak began.
The child was admitted to a hospital in critical condition and succumbed to the illness despite intensive medical intervention. According to health authorities, all 14 previous deaths in this outbreak involved children who had not received the measles vaccine. A concerning detail highlighted by officials is that the majority of these children were previously healthy and did not have underlying chronic conditions.
“The vaccine saves lives,” a senior official stated, emphasizing the critical role of immunization in combating the spread of this highly contagious disease. The Ministry of Health is urgently calling on the public to adhere to the recommended vaccination program to protect vulnerable populations.
Current health policy recommends children receive a measles vaccine between the ages of one and six years as part of a routine immunization schedule. In areas experiencing active outbreaks, a second dose is advised. Furthermore, early vaccination doses are recommended for infants between six and eleven months, particularly before international travel to regions where measles is prevalent.
