Kyiv: A Ukrainian court has sentenced a Russian soldier to life in prison for killing an unarmed civilian. This is the first war crimes trial since Russia launched its offensive.

Vadim Shishimarin, 21, a Russian tank commander, was convicted on February 28 in the shooting death of Oleksandr Shelipov, 62, in the village of Chupakhivka in northeastern Ukraine. The trial began last week. Russia has not responded to the court ruling.
