Jakarta: India beat Indonesia 16-0 in the first round of this year’s Asian Hockey Cup to advance to the next round.
The Men’s Asian Hockey Series – 2022 kicked off last Monday in Indonesia. A total of eight teams, including defending champions India, are participating in the series. The Indian team was placed in the ‘A’ category. The teams also included Japan, Pakistan and Indonesia. India have won just one of their last three matches. In the end, Pakistan advanced to the next round on the basis of the difference in goals scored.
15 goals required: India drew 1-1 with Pakistan in the first match of the group stage. The next match against Japan ended in a 2-5 defeat. Pakistan, on the other hand, beat Indonesia 13-0. However, in the third match against Japan, they lost the game 2-3. So it was necessary for India to beat Indonesia 15-0 if they were to advance to the next round. Only then will it be possible to overtake Pakistan in terms of goals.
Playing in such a crisis environment, the Indian team scored an easy 16-0 win over Indonesia. As a result, India has advanced to the next round.
Karthi, Sunil and Rajpar each scored 2 goals, while Uttam Singh, Nilam Sanjeeb and Lakra scored 1 goal each for India against Indonesia.
