Liverpool Football Club has issued over 400 lifetime bans and 115 indefinite suspensions following a joint operation with Merseyside Police. The initiative successfully seized £1.2m in assets linked to organized ticket touting, marking a significant escalation in the club’s ongoing efforts to secure matchday tickets for genuine supporters.
Coordinated Crackdown on Ticket Touting
The recent enforcement action targeted the laundering of criminal proceeds derived from illicit ticket sales. The operation resulted in the seizure of more than £1.2m in assets, which authorities have split between the local police force and the Home Office.

Account Suspensions and Stadium Security
Beyond the seizure of criminal assets, Liverpool has aggressively targeted the mechanisms used by touts to bypass official purchase channels. The club has now issued 432 lifetime bans to individuals confirmed to be involved in the illicit trade, alongside 115 indefinite suspensions.
This follows a period of heightened scrutiny over ticketing operations. Last year, reports indicated that the club had shut down 145,000 ticket accounts over a two-year span.
- 67,663 suspected fake accounts were either blocked or cancelled.
- 121,379 accounts remain under active investigation.
- 3,847 tickets were cancelled due to suspicious purchase activity during the 2025-26 season.
The cancelled tickets were subsequently returned to the general admission pool, increasing availability for legitimate fans. On matchdays, the club has implemented a strategy of targeted stops at Anfield—averaging 300 per home game—as well as at away fixtures in both the Premier League and European competitions to prevent entry for accounts flagged for suspicious behavior.

The scale of the intervention highlights the broader stakes for the club, which has faced sustained pressure from professional touting operations. By integrating financial investigations into their ticketing security, Liverpool is attempting to disrupt the economic incentives that drive touting. The successful seizure of £1.2m indicates that these networks have been operating at a significant scale, and the club’s continued reliance on data-driven account analysis suggests that further investigations into the thousands of currently flagged accounts are likely to follow.
