Strait of Hormuz Closures and Global Trade Pressures
The disruption across vital Middle Eastern trade corridors has intensified pressure on global energy supplies. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed following Iranian attacks and subsequent blasts, Saudi Arabia has relied on its east-west oil pipeline to increase exports via the Red Sea in recent months.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) asserted that the Strait of Hormuz was completely closed. Iranian state media reported that three tankers attempted to transit a mined and unsafe section of the waterway, resulting in one tanker catching fire after an explosion while two others turned back.
